A community tradition decades in the making is set to return to the stage this summer as alumni performers from past productions throughout the decades reunite for a special show aimed at supporting improvements to a longtime local performing arts venue.
Margie Benson of Wish Upon a Star Productions announced this week that the organization will move forward with a production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat after receiving enough interest from former performers connected to the Flowers Center.
Performances are scheduled for July 31 and Aug. 1.
“We are very proud to announce that we have enough alumni from performers at Flowers Center, to come to our interest meeting, and we are officially moving forward with presenting Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” Benson said in the announcement.
According to Benson, proceeds from the production will help fund ongoing renovations to the building’s bathrooms as part of a broader effort to preserve the facility for future generations.
“The money raised from this special event will go toward completing the renovation of our bathrooms,” Benson said. “Our friend, Steve Clouse, helped us secure funding to repair a foundation problem and replace the pipes underneath the bathrooms. Now, we are excited to begin renovating the inside of the bathrooms as well.”
Benson said the effort represents more than simply staging another theatrical performance.
“This project is about so much more than a show,” she said. “It is about renewing friendships, celebrating talent, and working together to help keep our performing arts building, which has served our community for 40 years, open and thriving for the young people coming up behind us.”
Organizers are still seeking additional cast members, particularly choir members and dancers, to participate in the production. Benson said rehearsal schedules will be “easy and flexible,” with more details expected to be announced soon.
