The Ariton Purple Cats emerged victorious after taking on county and system rival G.W. Long Friday night. The Purple Cats held off a determined GW Long squad to earn the 58-53 victory in a close rivalry matchup.
Ariton was led by a dominant performance from Cooper Murphy, who finished with 20 points and 17 rebounds to anchor the Cats on both ends of the floor. Addison Senn added 13 points, while Easton Kilpatrick chipped in with 13 points and nine rebounds, giving Ariton a balanced offensive attack.
The Rebels kept the pressure on throughout the night, led by Preston Williams with 21 points. Jakiyan Redding also played a key role for the Rebels, scoring 14 points as Long stayed within striking distance until the buzzer.
Despite struggling to fully pull away so they could build a larger lead, Ariton maintained control throughout the game, using steady scoring and home-court advantage to secure the win.
The win adds another strong result for the Purple Cats as they continue their push through the season. Ariton will take on Abbeville on Tuesday, January 13, while the Rebels will face Barbour County.
