ARITON—Organizers of the Ariton FFA and Ariton High School Purple Cats Baseball Golf Tournament have announced that the event has been postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions and will now be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Highland Oaks Golf Course in Dothan.
The tournament was originally scheduled for June 18, but organizers said forecasts called for weather that would make it difficult to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for participants.
“We’ve been keeping a close eye on the radar, and unfortunately, the upcoming weather will not cooperate for a great day of golf,” organizers said in an announcement. “To ensure everyone’s safety and a high-quality tournament, we are postponing the event.”
The rescheduled tournament will maintain its planned 9 a.m. shotgun start, and organizers noted that all current player registrations, team slots, and sponsorships will automatically transfer to the new July date.
The fundraiser benefits both the Ariton FFA Chapter and the Purple Cats baseball program. Proceeds raised by the FFA will help support student participation in the Alabama FFA State Convention, leadership conferences, and educational travel opportunities throughout the year. Funds raised for the baseball program will assist with team expenses and preparations for future seasons.
Before the postponement, Leigh Outlaw, Ariton FFA sponsor and agriscience teacher, encouraged community participation in the event.
“Dust off those clubs and join us for a day on the greens at the Highland Oaks Golf Course,” Outlaw said. “Lunch will be provided for all players, and we will also have some great door prizes to give away. Whether you’re a scratch golfer or just in it for the ‘birdies,’ we’d love to see you there. Every swing supports the Ariton FFA and the Varsity Baseball Team.”
Businesses and community members still have an opportunity to support the fundraiser through sponsorships. Organizers previously announced hole sponsorships are available for $150, providing local businesses with visibility while supporting student programs and athletics.
