ARITON — A strong offensive performance and solid pitching lifted the Ariton Lady Cats to a 10–2 victory over the Geneva Lady Panthers on March 3 in varsity softball action.
Ariton’s bats were active throughout the game, with several players turning in standout performances at the plate. Macileigh Bragg led the Lady Cats offensively, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBIs to pace the team’s scoring effort.
Beth Dixon also had a big night at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 while scoring four runs and driving in one RBI. Madolyn Hudson added to the offensive output, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
The Lady Cats were equally effective in the circle. Lizzy Faircloth earned the win for Ariton, pitching six innings while allowing four hits and two runs, only one of which was earned. Faircloth struck out six batters during her outing.
Dixon closed out the game in relief, pitching one inning and allowing no hits while recording two strikeouts.
With the win, Ariton combined timely hitting with strong pitching to secure the eight-run victory over Geneva. Ariton will look to carry this momentum forward as they take on Luverne at home on March 5 with the JV game starting at 4:30 and the varsity game starting immediately after. Then, on March 6-7, the Lady Cats will play in the Slocomb tournament. Geneva, meanwhile, will look to regroup as they hit the road today to take on Andalusia.
