Ariton Pulls Away from Abbeville for 41-24 Region Victory
The Ariton Purple Cats picked up their second region win of the season Friday night with a 41-24 home victory over the Abbeville Yellow Jackets, powered by a strong rushing attack and a dominant defensive effort.
Abbeville jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice in the first quarter while Ariton managed one touchdown, leaving the Purple Cats trailing 12-7 at the end of the opening period. But the second quarter belonged to Ariton, as the offense exploded for three touchdowns with successful extra points on each drive. Abbeville added one more score, but a missed PAT left the Abbeville behind 28-18 at halftime.
Ariton extended its lead in the third quarter with another touchdown and extra point, while the defense held Abbeville scoreless. Both teams found the end zone once in the final quarter, but neither could convert on the extra point attempt, sealing a 41-24 Purple Cats win.
Ariton racked up 380 yards of total offense, including 306 on the ground and 74 through the air. Leading the way was Wells Ganey, who carried the ball 15 times for 160 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding two catches for 10 yards and eight tackles on defense. J. Carrie Hammock contributed 77 rushing yards and two scores, and quarterback Addison Senn rushed for 69 yards, passed for 74 yards with one touchdown, and added six tackles and an interception on defense.
In the receiving game, Easton Kilpatrick led with 37 yards on two catches, while Connor Davidson had a 17-yard touchdown reception and a 40-yard kick return.
Defensively, Gabe Jones paced the Purple Cats with 13 tackles, including five for loss. Tate Kilcrease followed with 12 tackles and two for loss, while Parker Wimberly added seven tackles.
With the win, Ariton improved its region record to 2-0 and continued to show balance on both sides of the ball. Ariton will host G.W. Long next Friday in their next region matchup.
