As updated results were finalized across the AHSAA Baseball Playoffs, Wiregrass-area teams experienced a mix of strong postseason runs, competitive series wins, and early exits as opening-round action concluded across Classes 1A through 6A.
Several local programs advanced with convincing performances, while others saw their seasons come to an end in tightly contested matchups.
In Class 1A, Brantley continued its postseason momentum with a sweep of Choctaw County to move into the second round. Florala swept Leroy 15-5 and 8-5, according to sources who attended that game. Elba and Kinston also saw their seasons end in the opening round after being swept by Sweet Water and Millry, respectively.
Class 2A proved to be one of the strongest classifications for the Wiregrass. Ariton advanced with a dominant two-game sweep of Pike Liberal Arts. G.W. Long also moved on after winning its series against Luverne. Cottonwood secured its advancement with a series win over J.U. Blacksher. Geneva County, however, was eliminated after falling to Bayshore Christian.
In Class 3A, Wiregrass programs delivered a perfect opening-round showing. Providence Christian swept T.R. Miller to advance, while Wicksburg also moved on with a two-game sweep of Cottage Hill Christian.
Class 4A results were similarly strong for the region. Opp advanced after sweeping Geneva, and Houston Academy moved on with a series win over New Brockton. Both Geneva and New Brockton were eliminated in the opening round.
Class 5A featured a key all-Wiregrass matchup, with Charles Henderson defeating Eufaula to advance, ending Eufaula’s postseason run. Headland also secured advancement with a series win over Andalusia.
In Class 6A, Rehobeth saw its season come to an end after falling to Stanhope Elmore in opening-round play.
Overall, the Wiregrass will be represented well in the second round by Brantley, Ariton, G.W. Long, Cottonwood, Providence Christian, Wicksburg, Opp, Houston Academy, Charles Henderson, and Headland.
Teams eliminated in the opening round include Elba, Kinston, Florala, Geneva County, Geneva, New Brockton, Eufaula, and Rehobeth.
With multiple teams advancing across several classifications, the Wiregrass remains well represented as the state playoffs move into the second round, where deeper postseason runs will begin to take shape.
