MONTGOMERY — A special agent with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency was shot Wednesday evening during an officer-involved shooting in Montgomery, authorities confirmed.
According to ALEA, the incident occurred at approximately 5:51 p.m. in the 4000 block of Longleaf Drive. The special agent, who is assigned to ALEA’s SWAT Team, was struck by gunfire during the encounter.
The agent was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials did not immediately release details about the agent’s condition.
ALEA said the shooting happened while SWAT personnel and officers assigned to the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit were conducting an enforcement detail in Montgomery. Additional information about the circumstances leading up to the shooting has not been released.
The situation remains under active investigation, and authorities said no further details are available at this time.
In a statement, ALEA asked for prayers and support for the injured special agent, the agent’s family, and members of the agency as the investigation continues.
