GULF SHORES — Authorities responded Saturday night after a plane crashed into Bon Secour Bay near Gulf Shores, prompting a large emergency response in the area.
According to the Gulf Shores Police Department, the crash occurred in Bon Secour Bay near the area of Sailboat Bay and Plash Island. Marine and dive units were dispatched to the scene as first responders worked to assess the situation and search the water.
Officials have not yet released details about the type of aircraft involved, how many people may have been on board, or whether there were injuries or fatalities. Authorities said information remains limited as crews continue working at the scene and investigators begin determining what led to the aircraft going down in the bay.
The crash prompted a significant response from local emergency services, including specialized water-rescue resources. The area where the plane went down lies along the eastern side of Gulf Shores in Baldwin County, where Bon Secour Bay connects to the Intracoastal Waterway and nearby coastal communities
