The Carroll High School (CHS) Eagles soared Friday night in Evergreen. They put together another strong performance, jumping on the Evergreen Jaguars early and never looking back on their way to a convincing 38-6 victory.
This marks the second straight victory for the CHS Eagles, perhaps a testament to New Head Football Coach Steve McLendon and this team of Eagles.
Carroll won the opening coin toss and elected to let Evergreen start with the football. It did not take long for the Eagles to make their presence felt, as Carroll’s defense kept the Jaguars off the scoreboard while the offense began building its advantage.
By the end of the first quarter, Carroll had established an 8-0 lead.
The Eagles continued to control the game in the second quarter, extending their advantage to 22-0 with 2:53 remaining before halftime. Carroll’s defense continued to make life difficult for Evergreen, keeping the Jaguars from finding any offensive rhythm.
Carroll carried its momentum into the second half, adding to its lead before entering the fourth quarter with a commanding 28-0 advantage.
Evergreen finally broke through on the scoreboard during the final quarter, but the Jaguars were unable to convert the ensuing two-point attempt. With just over five minutes remaining, Carroll still held a comfortable 28-6 lead.
The final minutes, however, provided plenty of action.
Carroll appeared to find the end zone again, but the touchdown was called back, forcing the Eagles to settle for a field goal and extend their lead.
The Eagles then came up with another big play on special teams, recovering an onside kick and immediately putting themselves in position to add to their advantage.
Carroll’s offense capitalized on the opportunity, driving down the field and finding the end zone. The extra point was good, pushing the Eagles’ lead to 38-6 with just 1:25 remaining.
From there, Carroll closed out the Jaguars and secured the 38-6 victory.
The win gave the Eagles another impressive performance on both sides of the football, with Carroll controlling the game from the opening quarter and continuing to apply pressure through the final whistle.
The Eagles’ combination of defense, offensive production and timely special-teams plays proved too much for Evergreen to overcome as Carroll finished the night with a 32-point victory.
