Montgomery—The Carroll High School Eagles found their footing again and picked up a much-needed win Thursday, holding off Johnson Abernathy Graetz High School Jaguars for a 6-5 victory in a tight matchup on the road.
Johnson Abernathy Graetz High School, commonly referred to as JAG, is located in Montgomery. The school was formerly known as Jeff Davis High School before being renamed by the Montgomery Board of Education in 2020.
After entering the game on a three-game losing streak, the Eagles found a way to close out a one-run game and return to the win column.
Carroll leaned on a strong performance from pitcher Daniel Lopez, who went the distance on the mound. Lopez pitched all seven innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits while recording six strikeouts. Four unearned runs crossed for JAG, but Lopez kept the damage limited and gave his team a chance to win late.
At the plate, Joseph Del Rosario helped spark the offense. He reached base twice in four plate appearances, scored a run, and added two stolen bases to apply pressure on the defense.
Zekayden Vincent also contributed, reaching base three times in four trips to the plate. Vincent scored twice and added a stolen base as the Eagles manufactured enough offense to hold off the Jaguars.
The win improves Carroll’s record to 7-14-1 on the season. JAG falls to 5-3 with the loss, which snapped a three-game winning streak for the Jaguars.
Carroll returns to action Friday with a home matchup against Andalusia scheduled for 4:30 p.m., while JAG will travel to face Enterprise on Tuesday.
