Bulldogs Edge Eagles 21-14 in Brundidge
BRUNDIDGE – The Carroll Eagles came out swinging Friday night at Bulldog Stadium, but Pike County answered every punch and held on late to claim a 21-14 win.
Carroll struck first midway through the second quarter when Kayden Cole broke free on a 65-yard touchdown run with 10:03 left before halftime. The PAT attempt was no good, but the Eagles led 6-0.
The lead didn’t last long. Pike County’s return team answered on the ensuing kickoff, taking it 65 yards to the house. The extra point gave the Bulldogs a 7-6 edge with 9:48 to go in the half.
Just 16 seconds later, Cole struck again for Carroll—this time breaking loose for another 65-yard touchdown run. Dez Parker added the two-point conversion, putting the Eagles back on top 14-7.
Pike County tied the game before the break on a 58-yard scoring run at the 2:58 mark. The PAT was good, and the teams went into halftime knotted at 14.
The third quarter was a defensive grind with both teams trading possessions, but the Bulldogs finally broke through with 7:42 left in the fourth on what proved to be the game-winning touchdown. The extra point gave Pike County a 21-14 lead.
Carroll made a late push, moving the ball in the closing minutes, but the Eagles’ final drive stalled, and Pike County was able to run out the clock to seal the win.
With the loss, Carroll falls to 0-6 on the season. The Eagles will look to regroup next week as they return home to Matthews Stadium to host Montgomery Catholic.
