The Carroll High Lady Eagles came within inches of a statement victory Thursday night, falling to Class 7A powerhouse Enterprise 60–57 in a hard-fought road battle in Luverne that showcased both the team’s progress and the work still ahead.
Head Coach Johnson said the narrow loss wasn’t about officiating but about missed opportunities—specifically at the free-throw line, where Carroll left 22 points untaken.
“Some would say the officiating was horrible, but we beat ourselves by missing 22 free throws,” Johnson said. “The officials can’t control that aspect of the game. We are improving in a lot of areas, but we are struggling to make free throws right now. Defensively, we have to be better with the little things like backside drop and second-chance opportunities.”
Despite the disappointment, the Lady Eagles delivered one of their most competitive showings in recent years against Enterprise, drawing a strong crowd of supporters who saw Carroll go toe-to-toe with a much larger school. The Lady Eagles was within one point of victory in the final couple of minutes of the game, but the Enterprise Wild Cats pulled ahead and the Eagles could not catch up before the buzzer.
“Our girls did very well against a 7A opponent that they have never come that close to beating in recent years,” Johnson added. “As a competitor, regardless of classification, I think we had the game won. We just made minor mistakes that we can control, and I hope my team learned from the tough loss.”
Carroll’s standout of the night was Zy Glanton, who turned in a dominant performance with 27 points, five assists, six steals, and five rebounds.
Frankasia Glover posted a powerful double-double of 12 points and 17 rebounds, controlling much of the action in the paint.
But perhaps the biggest spark came from the bench.
Coach Johnson praised JaMya Williams for stepping up in a critical role, noting her 12 points, four steals, and strong defensive assignment against Enterprise’s top guard.
“She came off the bench, played good minutes, and did exactly what I asked her to do,” Johnson said. “She did very well.”
The Lady Eagles now turn their attention to Saturday’s matchup in Luverne, where they will take on Highland Home. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m.
