Eufaula Pulls Away After Early Carroll Lead

Carroll High School struck first Friday night, but visiting Eufaula responded with an offensive surge to claim a 52-14 victory.

The Eagles opened the scoring with 6:15 left in the first quarter when quarterback Holden Pawlik connected with Devon Pruitt on an 11-yard touchdown pass. Cam Buchanan added the extra point to give Carroll a 7-0 lead.

Eufaula answered early in the second quarter as Jayden Howard powered in from one yard out. Fernando Salas’ extra point tied the game at 7-7. Just minutes later, the Tigers took the lead on a 9-yard touchdown run, followed by a successful two-point conversion to make it 15-7.

Eufaula struck again with 3:30 left in the half when quarterback Jaylin Wright found Howard on a 7-yard touchdown pass. Salas’ kick made it 22-7, which held as the halftime score.

The Tigers wasted no time extending their advantage in the second half. Wright connected with Howard for a 35-yard touchdown pass just 15 seconds into the third quarter, pushing the lead to 29-7. Wright later added an 8-yard touchdown run with 22 seconds left in the quarter to make it 36-7.

Eufaula’s defense then forced a safety when a Carroll punt snap sailed out of the end zone, increasing the margin to 38-7. The Tigers tacked on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter—a 5-yard run at the 9:05 mark and a 29-yard run just 14 seconds later—to push the lead to 52-7.

Carroll showed fight late, as Pawlik connected with Jaylen Stuckey on a short touchdown pass with 5:40 left. Buchanan’s extra point closed out the scoring as Eufaula got the win 52-14.

With the win, Eufaula controlled the tempo after Carroll’s early strike, leaning on a strong rushing attack. Carroll will look to regroup as they prepare for next week’s matchup at Pike County.
