MIDLAND CITY — The Dale County High School (DCHS) band continued a strong spring performance season, earning top honors at the Jazz MPA held April 21 at Enterprise State Community College.
Band members received straight Superior ratings—commonly referred to as “straight Ones”—during the assessment, reflecting excellence in musical performance, tone quality, technique, and overall ensemble execution.
Band Director Julianne Teal expressed pride in her students for a job well done.
The Jazz MPA is a statewide evaluation that provides student musicians the opportunity to perform before judges and receive detailed feedback, while also recognizing high levels of achievement among school bands.
It has been a busy season for the DCHS Jazz Band. They also took the stage at the David Bolich Ozark Jazz Festival on April 24. The festival was held at the Flowers Center for the Performing Arts, where the band joined other area ensembles in a showcase of student jazz talent.
Students participating in the recent performances included Gage Dykes, Riley Carter, Alexandria Pearson, Harmony Faleru, Brianna Cook, Cammi Moates, Cheyenne Landman, Brittney Martin, Alli Pimentel, Carli Moates, Josue Sanchez-Ramirez, Zack Shaw, Natalie Pearson, Rylee Oliver, Michael Snellgrove, Laina Stanchina, Vincent Courtway, Skylar Reyes, Sean Coots, and Savannah McKnight.
The performances at both the assessment and festival highlight the continued growth of the Warriors’ band program and its commitment to musical excellence.
