The Dale County High School Warriors defended their home turf Friday night in Midland City, edging out the New Brockton Gamecocks in a gritty 13–6 victory.
Dale County struck first in the opening quarter, punching in a touchdown and adding the extra point to take a 7–0 lead. With under a minute remaining in the first, the Warriors carried momentum into the second quarter.
The Warriors extended their lead late in the second with another touchdown, though the point-after attempt missed the mark. Still, Dale County went into halftime ahead 13–0.
That score held steady through the third quarter as both defenses tightened, leaving New Brockton scrambling to close the gap. Early in the fourth, the Gamecocks finally broke through with a touchdown drive, trimming the deficit to 13–6 after a missed kick.
From there, the Warriors’ defense locked in, shutting down New Brockton’s late push and sealing the win.
The victory improves Dale County’s record to 3–2 for the season. Next Friday, the DCHS Warriors will host system rival the Ariton High Purple Cats at Warrior Stadium in Midland City. It should be an interesting game to watch as Ariton remains undefeated so far.
