The Dale County High School (DCHS) boys’ varsity basketball team faced off against the Wicksburg Panthers Tuesday night, and the Warriors were on their A-game,
DCHS pulled off an impressive 56–40 win over Wicksburg on Tuesday night, powered, in part, by a dominant performance from Junior Smith who recorded a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Warriors’ offense. Wow, the game was certainly a team effort. Smith’s 19 points and 17 rebounds certainly led the evening.
Smith wasn’t the only standout; Jayden McGhee also delivered a strong performance with 15 points, while teammate Aiden Weed added 14, helping the Warriors maintain control throughout the matchup.
Despite the final score, Wicksburg battled throughout the game and never gave up. The Panthers were led by Jamien Ward, who scored 10 points, and Cooper Morrison, who contributed eight, keeping the contest competitive going into the second half.
Following the game, The Dale County Chronicle spoke with DCHS basketball coach James Edmonds who praised his team’s resilience and improvement.
“I thought we played our best complete game in this early season,” Edmonds said. “I was so proud to watch us bounce back and beat Wicksburg after losing in OT to them Friday night at Wicksburg.” The Warriors fell to Wicksburg Friday night in a tight game, losing 61-64.
The Warriors’ decisive win in the rematch provides them with a much-needed confidence boost as they look to build momentum moving forward. The Warriors will face off against Houston Academy in a home game in Midland City on December 2nd, starting at 4:30 with the JV, followed by the varsity girls and finally the varsity boys.
