COUNCIL DISCUSSES POTENTIAL COCA-COLA AGREEMENT FOR CULPEPPER PARK SCOREBOARD
The council discussed working with Coca-Cola on a potential agreement that could provide for the replacement of the scoreboard sign at Culpepper Park.
Council members discussed the details of the proposed contract but ultimately tabled the item.
The matter will remain tabled while the city and Coca-Cola work through the terms and details of the agreement.
COUNCILMEMBER ORGANIZES CULPEPPER PARK CLEANUP
Councilmember Jada Stone also spoke with the council about an upcoming community cleanup at Culpepper Park.
Stone is organizing the cleanup for Saturday, Sept. 19, beginning at 9 a.m. The event will focus on picking up litter and cleaning the park’s playground equipment and surrounding areas.
A flyer promoting the event encourages residents to join together to pick up trash, clean the slides, and help make Culpepper Park cleaner for everyone. See flyer below.
The Chronicle spoke with Stone about what inspired her to organize the cleanup.
“I just wanted the community to come together. The park is up to us to clean, so I thought maybe once a month we can take pride in our park [and work together to keep it clean],” Stone said.
Stone emphasized the importance of community responsibility and residents taking an active role in maintaining public spaces.
The cleanup is intended not only to remove litter but also to encourage residents to take pride in a public park that is available for the community to enjoy.
Daleville Municipal Manager Scott Smith also introduced himself at the council meeting and discussed changes involving the city’s garbage collection service.
Smith addressed the transition following the acquisition of Mark Dunning Industries, the company previously contracted to provide garbage pickup services, by Canadian company EcoWaste Solutions.
The discussion provided an opportunity for Smith to introduce himself in his role as municipal manager and address the changes associated with the transition in garbage services.
The Daleville City Council’s Sept. 15 agenda also included approval of the minutes from the Sept. 1 regular meeting, approval of the city’s bill list, and reports from the mayor, council members, city clerk, Chamber of Commerce, and Boys & Girls Club.
