The Daleville Public Library is preparing for a busy summer season with a wide variety of educational activities, reading programs, crafts, performances, and community events planned throughout June.
This year’s summer reading theme, “Unearth a Story: Unearth History,” will feature dinosaur-themed activities, literacy programs, history discussions, and hands-on learning opportunities for children, teens, and adults.
Library officials also encouraged residents to check the library calendar for additional recurring programs continuing through the summer.
CHILDREN’S AND TEEN PROGRAMS
Several weekly programs are scheduled throughout June for children and teens.
The library’s “Jurassic Discovery Crew” for kindergarten through second-grade students will meet on Mondays at 1:30 p.m. The program ties into the summer reading theme with dinosaur and history-related activities.
Older students can participate in the “Middle School Discovery Crew,” held on Mondays at 3:30 p.m.
Teen readers will also have an opportunity to participate in a weekly Teen Book Club focused on “The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien. The club meets on Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m.
Additional youth programs include Little Learner’s Storytime on Fridays at 10 a.m., along with special themed activities throughout the month.
Special children’s events planned during June include:
• June 5, Nature Club at 1:30 p.m.
• June 11, Pop Art Workshop with artist Michael Albert from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
• June 16, Lew-E the Clown performances at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
• June 24, “Animal Tales” presentations at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
• July 2, Montgomery Zoo visit at 1:30 p.m.
ADULT AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
The library will also host several programs geared toward adults and families during the month.
A family-friendly “Foundations of Freedom: History and Heritage” program is scheduled weekly at 4 p.m., although the library calendar and promotional flyer list different weekdays for the event.
Adults may also participate in the library’s monthly book club, which meets on the third Thursday at 4 p.m. June’s featured selection is “The Maid of Ballymacool” by Jennifer Deibel.
Other community programs include:
• Crochet Class, Tuesdays at 4 p.m.
• ASL Study Group, June 12 and June 26 at 1:30 p.m.
• Senior Movie Day, June 18 at 12:15 p.m.
• Daleville Amateur Radio Club meeting, June 27 at 10 a.m.
The library will also observe closures on Sundays and on June 19 for Juneteenth.
