ENTERPRISE — A devastating early-morning fire destroyed the Two by Two Petting Zoo in Enterprise on Thursday, killing all of the animals on the property and leaving the longtime family-run attraction in ruins.
Fire crews were dispatched to the petting zoo along County Road 540 after reports of a rapidly spreading structure fire. By the time first responders arrived, flames had already engulfed the main barn and event areas, leaving little opportunity for rescue efforts.
“With the heaviest hearts, we share that this morning our family petting zoo suffered a devastating fire,” the owners said in a statement shared on social media. “After 17 years in business, we lost everything. The fire spread incredibly fast, and by the time help arrived, none of our animals could be saved.”
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including fire departments from Enterprise and New Brockton, as well as local law enforcement. Despite their efforts, the animals housed inside could not be saved.
For the family behind the petting zoo, the loss extends far beyond physical structures. “For those who truly know our family, you know this loss goes far beyond a business,” the statement read. “Our animals were our livelihood, our passion, and our family. Outside of our walk with Christ, they were our daily purpose.”
The owners described the emotional toll of losing what they consider family members in a matter of moments, saying the pain is difficult to put into words.
Even amid the devastation, the family expressed gratitude for the support they have received and for the first responders who answered the call. “We are incredibly grateful to the Enterprise Fire Department, New Brockton Fire Department, the police department, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, and every single person who has called, texted, shown up, prayed, or reached out in love,” the post stated.
As they begin to navigate what comes next, the family said they are leaning on their faith and asking for continued prayers from the community. “Please continue to pray for our family as we wait on the Lord to show us what door He would have us walk through next,” they wrote. “We trust Him—even in the ashes.”
The cause of the fire is not known and remains under investigation.
