DOTHAN –Authorities in Dothan have announced that a man was discovered unresponsive inside a vehicle at a Dothan intersection early Saturday morning. The man, 41-year-old Joel Nicholson, a resident of Dothan, was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The Dale County Chronicle (DCC) has reached out to the Dothan Police Department for comment but we were told it would be Monday before our calls would be returned.
Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd announced that Dothan police were dispatched around 3:30 a.m. to the intersection of Herring Street and West Powell Street, where they found a car stopped at a stop sign with an unresponsive man in the driver’s seat.
Emergency medical service personnel attempted to resuscitate the man, but attempts at CPR were unsuccessful.
According to Byrd, “The cause of death is unknown.” He added that an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of Nicholson’s death.
The DCC contacted the coroner’s office with questions related to the death, including whether there were any signs of foul play, noticeable injuries, or if there were any signs of drugs or anything of that nature at the time of Nicholson’s discovery.
