DOTHAN–A Dothan High School student has been taken into custody according to authorities. The Dothan Police Department responded quickly after a social media post threatened violence against Dothan High School.
According to police, the department was notified on October 9, 2025, about online threats directed at Dothan High. The post reportedly mentioned plans to carry out an act of violence at the school on Monday, October 13.
Investigators immediately launched an inquiry and quickly identified the suspect as a Dothan High School student. Officers then made contact with the student and conducted a forensic review of their social media accounts.
Following the investigation, the juvenile was arrested and charged with Making Terrorist Threats in the Second Degree. The student was taken to the Southeast Alabama Diversion Center. Due to the suspect’s age, no further identifying information has been released. Police noted that Dothan City Schools will handle disciplinary action in accordance with its student code of conduct.
In a statement, the Dothan Police Department emphasized its firm stance on school-related threats.
“The Dothan Police Department takes all threats serious[ly], especially those made towards a school,” the department said. “We will not allow anyone to terrorize our students, faculty, staff, or parents by making ill-advised statements indicating threats of violence.”
Police also expressed gratitude to the community members who reported the threat.
“We are thankful to the individuals that shared this information with us so we could act,” the statement continued. “The strongest deterrent to violence and crime is a community willing to take a strong stand against it in partnership with the police.”
Authorities urge anyone who becomes aware of similar threats to immediately report them to law enforcement.
