The Dale County Farm-City Committee will host its annual Farm-City Banquet tonight, November 18, at 6:00 p.m. at the Ozark Civic Center. The annual event celebrates the vital connection between agriculture and the many industries that help bring food from local fields to community tables. Additionally, the program highlights the special relationship rural areas with farms have with cities that rely upon food grown on farms to feed their residents.
Committee member Melissa Voynich said the community can expect an evening of fellowship, recognition, and a hearty meal.
“Our Dale County Farm-City Banquet will be at the Civic Center on November 18, and we will have a delicious meal and ceremony together,” Voynich said. “The Farm-City Committee works all year to represent agriculture in our area, with our main event being the displays at Claybank Jamboree.”
Tonight’s banquet is open to everyone, with admission simply requiring a canned food donation. Attendees will also have opportunities to win door prizes provided by local businesses and Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapters, highlighting the deep support between the farming community and local organizations.
Voynich also noted that Dale County is recognized as the top Farm-City Committee in Alabama for 2025, a distinction reflecting the county’s strong involvement in agricultural education, outreach, and community engagement.
About Farm-City Week
Farm-City Week is a long-running national program designed to strengthen understanding between rural and urban communities. While farmers produce the food, fiber, and forest products that fuel American life, countless other professions—truck drivers, grocers, veterinarians, factory workers, computer scientists, bankers, chemists, and more—are essential to moving those products from farm to consumer.
The goal of Farm-City is to illuminate this interdependence. Since 1955, Farm-City committees across the U.S. and Canada have hosted educational events, farm tours, youth programs, and outreach activities. These initiatives begin each year with National Ag Day in the spring and culminate with Farm-City Week, traditionally held during Thanksgiving week.
For Dale County, the program’s influence is felt year-round, with events like tonight’s banquet serving as the capstone to a year of community engagement and agricultural celebration and awareness.
