FORT RUCKER —Soldiers, veterans, military families, and community members are invited to celebrate the 251st Birthday of the United States Army during a traditional cake-cutting ceremony scheduled for June 12 at Fort Rucker.
The event will begin at noon at Big Mike’s Bar & Grill, Building 319 on Ruf Avenue at Fort Rucker. The ceremony is sponsored by the Fort Rucker-Wiregrass Chapter of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA).
According to event organizers, the celebration will honor 251 years of Army service, sacrifice, and dedication to the nation. The annual Army Birthday observance commemorates the founding of the Continental Army on June 14, 1775, by the Second Continental Congress, marking it as the oldest branch of the U.S. military.
The traditional cake-cutting ceremony is one of the Army’s most enduring customs. During many Army birthday celebrations, the first slice of cake is shared between the oldest and youngest soldiers present, symbolizing the passing of knowledge, experience, and traditions from one generation to the next.
This year’s gathering will provide an opportunity for members of the military community and residents to come together in recognition of the Army’s history and continued service to the country.
The event is being held in partnership with the U.S. Army Aviation, Family and MWR, and Big Mike’s Bar & Grill.
Organizers encourage attendees to join the celebration and commemorate more than two and a half centuries of Army service under the Army motto, “This We’ll Defend.”
The Army Birthday Cake-Cutting Ceremony will take place at noon on June 12 at Big Mike’s Bar & Grill, Building 319, Ruf Avenue, Fort Rucker.
