SKIPPERVILLE—The G.W. Long Rebels hosted Northside on Monday, and the game was pretty evenly matched throughout. The Rebels split their matchup with Northside in a competitive four-set volleyball contest, with each team claiming two sets.
Long opened the match with a 25-21 victory and followed with another close 25-23 win. Northside Methodist responded by taking the third set 25-17 before narrowly claiming the fourth set 25-23, officially splitting the varsity volleyball game.
Kaylie Foster led the G.W. Long offense with 13 kills and added seven digs on defense. Sophie Stevens also had a strong performance for the Rebels, recording 11 kills and two digs.
At the net, Sophie Martin Tibbetts contributed six kills and four blocks, while Emory Strickland added one kill and two blocks.
The Rebels also received an all-around performance from Sawyer Hughes, who finished with an impressive 31 assists, three kills and three digs. Defensively, Brooklyn Head recorded six digs.
G.W. Long received contributions from a team working together throughout the lineup as the Rebels battled Northside Methodist through four competitive sets, earning a split in the matchup.
The Rebels will next host Houston County for an Area game tomorrow, September 1, and will be back at it again hosting Pike Liberal Arts on September 3, with the Junior High game starting at 4:00, followed by JV and then varsity.
Northside, meanwhile, will host Pike Liberal Arts for an Area Quad Match tomorrow, Tuesday, September 1.
