Update: this story has been updated. An earlier version stated the shooting incident took place in Midland City, but upon further investigation, we learned the incident took place in the Pinckard town limits.
Emergency crews responded Monday morning to a reported gunshot wound in Pinckard, resulting in one individual being airlifted to a regional hospital.
Ozark-Dale County 911 dispatched Echo Rescue, Midland City Police, and the Dale County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 9:40 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, to the 12000 block of U.S. Highway 231 after receiving reports of a gunshot wound to the chest. Reports indicate the victim was conscious and breathing at the time of the call.
Because of the seriousness of the injury, Survival Flight was requested. A landing zone was established at a nearby church along Highway 231 to allow for rapid transport.
Initial information provided to emergency dispatch indicated the gunshot wound was believed to be self-inflicted. Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Multiple paramedic agencies responded, including Echo EMS and Dothan Fire and Rescue.
Officials confirm the patient had been transferred to Survival Flight for transport to a medical facility. Dothan Fire Engine 6 cleared the scene and returned to service shortly afterward.
The victim’s condition has not been made public. The incident remains under investigation, and no additional information has been released at this time.
