The Carroll High Lady Eagles were unable to slow a strong St. James High School squad, falling 70-37 in the Auburn Christmas Classic on Friday.
St. James set the pace early, taking a 13-11 lead after the first quarter before pulling away in the second. The Lady Trojans outscored Carroll High 24-7 in the second period to take a commanding 37-18 advantage into halftime.
Carroll High continued to battle in the second half, but St. James maintained control on both ends of the floor. St. James added another 24 points in the third quarter while holding the Lady Eagles to 13, extending the lead to 61-31 heading into the final period. Both teams slowed offensively in the fourth, with St. James edging Carroll High 9-6 to close out the win.
Makynzye Bonner led the Lady Eagles in scoring with 11 points. Frankasia Glover paced Carroll High on the boards with seven rebounds, while Zymirra Glanton contributed five assists. As a team, the Lady Eagles finished with 26 total rebounds, 14 assists, and five steals.
Despite the loss, Carroll High continued to gain valuable experience against tough competition during tournament play at the Auburn Christmas Classic. The Lady Eagles face Smiths Station High School on Saturday.
