The Carroll High Lady Eagles turned in a complete team performance Saturday afternoon, defeating Smiths Station High School 60-53 at the Auburn Christmas Classic. This was the Lady Eagles’ second matchup at the tournament.
Carroll High set the tone early, jumping out to a 15-10 lead after the first quarter. Smiths Station answered in the second period, outscoring the Lady Eagles 13-9 to trim the margin to one, as Carroll High carried a slim 24-23 advantage into halftime.
The Lady Eagles seized control coming out of the break with their strongest quarter of the game. Carroll High poured in 21 points in the third quarter while holding Smiths Station to 15, building a 45-38 lead heading into the final period.
Both teams battled evenly in the fourth quarter, scoring 15 points apiece, but Carroll High’s third-quarter surge proved to be the difference as the Lady Eagles closed out the seven-point win.
Zymirra Glanton led Carroll High with 18 points and five assists, providing steady offense and playmaking throughout the contest. Zuri Steele was a force on the boards, pulling down 12 rebounds. As a team, the Lady Eagles finished with 22 total rebounds and an aggressive defensive effort that resulted in 16 steals, helping Carroll High maintain control and secure this victory.
