On Wednesday, Leah Harlow met with youth ambassadors at the Chamber of Commerce office to have conversations about some important topics.
Harlow spoke with the Dale County Chronicle about the event, saying, “I spoke with them yesterday about community service and the difference in volunteering, charity, and activism.”
She also pointed out that they talked about why community service matters and how it benefits our community.
For young people who were unable to attend this meeting or may be interested in the topics covered, Harlow had some encouraging words of wisdom to share, saying, “find that one thing you are passionate about then figure out how to share it with the community.
Echoing the late John F Kennedy, I would say… Ask what you can do for your community, not what your community can do for you.”
The Ozark Chamber of Commerce Youth Ambassador Program is made up of area high school juniors and seniors who applied and were accepted into the program. The youth ambassadors are students who plan to pursue higher education at a vocational or technical school, community college, or university. The program helps the youth ambassadors gain invaluable skills and experience and focuses on helping them learn about leadership, community service, and connecting with local business leaders who provide mentoring and guidance.
One participant will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to go toward their college or vocational training education.
While the application period is closed for this year, juniors and seniors can apply for the program next year.
