DALEVILLE—Great deeds can arrive in small packages as young Laura Porter, the 2026 winner of Daleville Pageants’ Little Miss Daleville, proves. Young Laura is making a meaningful impact in her community by turning gratitude into action through her inspiring service project, “Treats for Patriots.”
The initiative is dedicated to honoring and supporting local veterans through acts of kindness, fellowship, and appreciation.
According to the project’s purpose and overall mission, Porter created Treats for Patriots to provide veterans with sweet treats, heartfelt conversations, and meaningful time together while reminding them “how much their service and sacrifice are valued by the community.”
As part of the initiative, Porter attends the monthly meetings of AMVETS Post 7, held on the first Thursday of each month, where she brings treats and spends time visiting with veterans. The project also seeks to encourage more veterans to participate in local organizations and community activities.
Porter’s recent visit to an AMVETS Post 7 meeting was met with appreciation from members.
“Thank you to Little Miss Daleville for stopping by tonight’s AMVETS meeting and bringing some delicious treats!” the organization said in a social media post following her visit.
The project focuses on several key activities, including hosting treat gatherings with veterans, writing thank-you cards, and encouraging community involvement in supporting local heroes. Through these efforts, Porter hopes to build stronger connections between veterans and the communities they served.
The initiative reflects Porter’s belief that even small gestures can have a meaningful, long-lasting impact. The Program’s official announcement states, “Laura believes that even the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference.” It adds that she is honored to use her title and platform “to serve, uplift, and thank those who have given so much for our freedom.”
What began as a simple idea to show appreciation has grown into an ongoing effort to recognize local veterans and ensure they know their service has not been forgotten. Through the support of family members, friends, and community supporters, Treats for Patriots continues to expand its reach and mission.
