Midland City Elementary School students wrapped up a busy and exciting week filled with learning opportunities, creativity, and holiday cheer.
The week featured a variety of activities for MCES “Little Warriors,” including a first-grade Christmas PTO program, the school spelling bee, hands-on science lessons, and festive classroom crafts. Each event highlighted both student achievement and community support.
“Our first-grade students did a fantastic job tonight at our Christmas PTO program!” the school shared. “Great job, first grade, and also Mr. Mead, our Music teacher!” The performance showcased students’ hard work and helped spread holiday spirit throughout the school community.
The school also celebrated an important facility upgrade with the addition of a new stage, which was highlighted during the Christmas program. “We are so thankful for our new stage in the gym!” school officials said. “This project has been made possible by a grant from the Alabama State Department of Education.”
Academic achievement was recognized during the school spelling bee. Eli earned first place, with Lexi finishing second. “Thank you to all of the students who participated in the school spelling bee,” the school noted. “We know you each worked hard, and we are proud of each of you!”
Hands-on learning continued in classrooms throughout the week, with Mr. Shipes’ science class building circuits and exploring how they work. The school shared that the activity gave students a practical look at electrical concepts through interactive learning.
Holiday fun was also woven into daily lessons. “We love a good Christmas book and Christmas craft!” the school said. “Mrs. Kilgore, Mrs. Lee, and Mrs. McLaney’s class all enjoyed listening to the book and making their own ornament!”
In other news, Mrs. Richards was recognized as the Teacher of the Month last week. MCES expressed the school’s appreciation for Mrs. Richards dedication and hard work.
School leaders said the week reflected the strong engagement of both students and staff, making it a memorable and meaningful time at Midland City Elementary School.
