Midland City Voters Headed to the Polls Again for the Municipal Election Runoff Held on Tuesday, 9/23
JoAnn Bennett Grimsley won the mayoral race, earning 209 votes while incumbent Mayor Cynthia “Cyndi” Gary earned 161 votes.
District 3- Mollie Doster Allen defeated incumbent Elaine Knight. Allen won 53 votes while Knight won 18.
District 4- Cynthia “Cyndi” Pittman won her seat by 1 vote, proving the importance of everyone voting. She earned 33 votes while Delbert Chandler won 32.
Grimsley, Allen, and Pittman will be sworn in with the new municipal government on November 3, 2025.
***Meanwhile, the District races for Districts 1, 2, and 5 will be decided in a runoff election on Tuesday, September 23. Next week!
District 1
Incumbent Kendall Shirah will face Lonnie Sims in the runoff.
District 2
John Biggs and Rosa W. Lingo will compete for the District 2 Seat
While in District 5
DeLaine “Hawkins” Spencer and incumbent Dennis Matthews will compete for the voters’ support.
The runoff election for all municipalities requiring one will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, pursuant to the requirements of the Alabama Code of 1975, as amended.
Newton’s Mayoral Race is Also Headed to a Runoff While Snow and Stanford Win Town Council Seats
There will be a runoff election for Newton’s mayor. Former Mayor Bill Pruett will face off against Town Council Member Sharolyn Sidebottom. In Tuesday’s election, Pruett received the most votes with 126. Sidebottom earned 96 votes. Since neither received a clear majority, they will ask voters to choose between the two in a runoff election.
Incumbent Mayor Lonnie Daniels, who defeated Pruett in the 2020 election, received 60 votes while Diane Irby earned 35 votes.
Meanwhile, voters chose Jason Stanford to represent them in District 1. Stanford received 52 votes while Tim Brookshire earned 11.
Kathy Snow will represent District 4, earning 70 votes to Angelia Willis-Ford’s 55 votes.

Distinct 2 Council Member: Jesse Lawrence
Distinct 3 Council Member: Carla Enfinger
Distinct 4 Council Member: Kathy Snow
Distinct 5 Council Member: Mike Cherry
The close margins of this election demonstrate how every vote makes a difference. Voters will choose between Pruett and Sidebottom for mayor in the runoff election set for Tuesday, September 23.
