Midland City Voters Decide Runoff Races
MIDLAND CITY, Ala. — Voters returned to the polls Tuesday to settle several key races in Midland City’s 2025 municipal runoff election.
In District 1, Incumbent Councilman Kendall Shirah secured the council seat with 47 votes (62.7%), defeating Lonnie Mims, who received 28 votes (37.3%).
The District 2 race went to John Boggs, who earned 44 votes (55%), while Rosa W. Lingo finished with 36 votes (45%).
In District 5, DeLaine “Hawkins” Spencer edged out incumbent Dennis Mathews, capturing 22 votes (53.7%) to Mathews’ 19 votes (46.3%).
Overall turnout was modest, with fewer than 100 ballots cast in each district contest. The results finalize Midland City’s municipal leadership lineup following a closely watched election season. The fact that two of the races were decided by less than 10 votes shows that every vote counts.
Shirah, Boggs, and Spencer will join Mayor-Elect JoAnn Grimsley and elected council members Mollie Doster Allen and Cynthia “Cyndi” Pittman when the new municipal government is sworn in on November 3.
