Wiregrass—Drivers traveling through portions of Dale and Pike counties this summer are being advised to slow down and remain alert as roadway improvement projects continue.
The Level Plains Police Department is asking motorists to use extra caution when traveling through the intersection of U.S. Highway 84 and County Road 1 this week. Crews are working on the traffic signal at the intersection, and drivers may encounter temporary delays and changing traffic patterns while the project is underway.
Police are encouraging motorists to reduce their speed, obey all traffic control devices, and follow directions from workers in the construction zone to help ensure the safety of both road crews and the traveling public.
The department thanked residents and visitors for their patience as the intersection improvements are completed.
In neighboring Pike County, the Alabama Department of Transportation has announced an update to its resurfacing and striping project on State Route 53 (U.S. Highway 231). According to ALDOT, the project, which includes resurfacing, micro milling, and new traffic striping along approximately 2.6 miles between State Route 93 and Veterans Boulevard in Brundidge, has been delayed.
Work is now scheduled to begin Monday, July 13, weather permitting, instead of the previously announced June start date. The approximately $1.6 million project is expected to continue through the fall.
Motorists are encouraged to plan, allow extra travel time when necessary, and exercise caution in all active work zones to help keep both workers and fellow travelers safe.
