ARITON — It was a night filled with roars as the battle of the cats took place in Ariton. The Ariton Purple Cats delivered a strong all-around performance Friday night, earning a 54–44 varsity boys basketball victory over the Barbour County Jaguars behind balanced scoring, rebounding, and solid defensive play.
Ariton was led by Addison Senn, who turned in an impressive double-figure effort with 18 points and eight rebounds, setting the tone on both ends of the floor and making sure Barbour County heard the Purple Cats’ ferocious roar. Easton Kilpatrick also recorded a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds to provide a steady presence in the paint.
Titus Senn added nine points, while Bryson Rhett chipped in eight to round out the Purple Cats’ scoring attack. Ariton’s ability to control the boards and limit second-chance opportunities proved to be a key factor as the game progressed.
Michael Blackmon paced Barbour County by leading all scorers for the Jaguars with 18 points. Justin Jackson followed with eight points, but the Jaguars struggled to keep pace offensively as the Purple Cats tightened its defense down the stretch.
With the win, Ariton improves its record to 15-3 and continues to build momentum as the season progresses, showcasing strong talent and consistency that could continue to serve them well in upcoming matchups. The Purple Cats host Abbeville on January 20, and parents and members of the community are encouraged to show their support and e attend the game. On January 23, Ariton travels to Skipperville to take on county and system rival G.W. Long. The JV boys’ games start at 4:30 p.m. The varsity girls’ games will start shortly after the end of the JV game, and the varsity boys’ game starts at 7:00 p.m.
