OZARK, Ala. — The Ozark City Council unanimously approved all items on its July 21 agenda, including a grant to install new downtown banners celebrating Carroll High School, a schedule change for its August meeting, and the unbudgeted purchase of laptop computers to support employee training.
The council voted to move its regularly scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 18, meeting to Monday, Aug. 17. Before the regular council meeting, city officials will hold a Fiscal Year 2027 budget presentation at 4:30 p.m.
One of the meeting’s highlights was the council’s acceptance of an Alabama Power Foundation grant that will fund decorative flags to be displayed throughout downtown Ozark. The banners, designed by Laura Bruce, will showcase Carroll High School Eagle Pride and enhance the appearance of the downtown area while celebrating the local school, officials say.
Council members also approved the renewal of agreements with Neumo, formerly known as Avenu, for the city’s tax collection services.
In other business, the council unanimously approved the first and second readings of applications for retail beer, retail table wine, and tobacco and alternative nicotine product licenses for Wall Street Markets LLC, doing business as Piggly Wiggly 318, located at 288 N. Union Ave. in Ozark.
The council also approved an unbudgeted purchase of laptop computers for the Ozark Police Department and the Engineering/Inspection Department.
The Chronicle spoke with Councilmember Brenda Simechak, and she said the computers will be dedicated to employee training as more annual training and compliance manuals are being distributed electronically rather than in printed form.
Two council members were absent from the meeting. Councilman Bryan Macario was attending annual military training, and Councilman Winston Jackson was absent due to a death in his family. The Dale County Chronicle staff and interns will keep Jackson and his family in our thoughts and prayers.
With no further business, the council adjourned after unanimously approving every item on the agenda.
The Ozark City Council generally meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 5:00 pm in the Council Chambers on the Second Floor of the Ozark Municipal Complex, located at 275 N.
