The Ozark City Council is scheduled to meet Tuesday, Sept. 15, starting at 5pm, with several property-related matters, business applications, an animal control services agreement and two public safety grants on the agenda.
The administrative meeting will be followed immediately by the discussion and voting portion of the council meeting. This portion is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., but the council often begins early if the 5:00pm meeting ends early.
Among the most significant items are two resolutions addressing properties the city is considering declaring public nuisances.
The first resolution would declare four properties with dangerous buildings public nuisances. The properties listed on the agenda are:
• 114 Church St.
• 213 Valentine St.
• 321 Boykin Ave.
• 329 Boykin Ave.
A second resolution would address seven additional properties the city is considering declaring public nuisances. Those properties are:
• 380 Hudson Circle
• 2204 Deese Road
• 274 Parker Hills Drive
• 5879 Andrews Ave.
• 912 Martin St.
• 375 Ben Grimes Road
• 2938 Campground Road
The agenda lists Bret as the presenter for both nuisance-property resolutions.
The council is also scheduled to consider approving an agreement with the Dale County Commission for animal control services. Ozark Police Chief Bryan is listed as the presenter for the item.
The agreement comes as the city continues to address animal-control responsibilities and services within Ozark.
The council will also conduct first and second readings on two alcohol-related or business licensing matters.
The first involves Application 160 for special retail, more than 30 days, for Rax Country LLC, doing business as Rax Country Entertainment at 320 E. College St. in Ozark. The application lists Kelli P. McQueen, of Troy, as the owner.
The second is Application 020 for restaurant retail liquor for Applebee’s Restaurants Mid Atlantic LLC, doing business as Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill and Bar at 1688 U.S. Highway 231 S. in Ozark.
Another item on the agenda calls for the council to consider reappointing a member to the Ozark-Dale County Economic Development Corp. Mayor Charles R. Ward is listed as the presenter.
The council also will consider accepting and authorizing two Wiregrass Resource Conservation and Development Council grants aimed at strengthening local emergency-response capabilities.
One grant would provide funding for fire and rescue simulation equipment, while the other would provide EMS training simulators. Fire and rescue grant-related matters are listed under Director Maertens.
The two grants could provide additional training resources for local emergency personnel, allowing responders to practice scenarios and develop skills in a controlled training environment.
Tuesday’s meeting will begin with the call to order, followed by prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Council members are also scheduled to approve minutes from the Sept. 1 regular council meeting and set the agenda before moving into the listed business.
The meeting is scheduled to conclude following consideration of the agenda items.
