OZARK — The Ozark City Council is scheduled to meet Tuesday, March 3, at 5 p.m. at City Hall, with several personnel and financial matters on the agenda.
Council members will open the meeting with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance before approving minutes from the Feb. 17 regular meeting and setting the agenda.
Among the items slated for consideration is the second reading of an application for Retail Beer (Off Premises Only) and Retail Table Wine (Off Premises Only) for 5 LP Ozark Inc., doing business as Stop and Go Store A, located at 1464 Will Logan Road. The listed owners are Dhruvaben Patel of Opelika and Captain Cody Evans.
Mayor Charles R. Ward is expected to present two items, including an update to the city’s grant writer job description and a board appointment.
The council will also consider a resolution to confirm the city’s tax levy for fiscal year 2027. Additional business includes a proposed update to the city’s employee handbook and review of a resolution request for a tax abatement.
The meeting agenda also lists an executive session planned near the end of the meeting. During the executive session, city council members will leave chambers and no one from the media or the public will be allowed to be present for that portion of the meeting.
Under the Alabama Open Meetings Act, a city council may enter executive session only for specific reasons permitted by law, including discussion of an individual’s general reputation and character, pending or threatened litigation with the city attorney, certain personnel matters, security plans, ongoing criminal investigations, real estate negotiations, or confidential commercial information. The council must publicly state the reason and vote to enter executive session, and no final action may be taken until returning to open session.
The Ozark City Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. After the administrative meeting, the council generally takes a three-minute break and immediately goes behind the 5:30 p.m. meeting, even if it is early. If you wish to be present, you should plan to arrive by 5:00 p.m.
