OZARK — Ozark City Schools (OCS) has announced several leadership appointments ahead of the 2026-27 school year, including a new principal at Carroll High School, a new principal at Mixon Intermediate School, and a new assistant superintendent.
District officials recently welcomed Will Cammack as the new principal of Carroll High School to fill the vacancy after Marci Williams was named superintendent of OCS.
Cammack is a familiar face within the district, having previously served six years in Ozark City Schools. During that time, he spent four years as assistant principal and athletic director at Carroll High School.
“Mr. Cammack is no stranger to the Ozark City School System,” the district said in announcing his appointment. “His familiarity with our students, staff, families, and community provides a strong foundation as he returns to lead Carroll High School.”
School officials said Cammack’s previous experience within the district and his established relationships throughout the community position him well to lead Carroll High School moving forward.
Ozark City Schools also announced the promotion of Amanda Melby to principal of Mixon Intermediate School following the departure of former principal Jeremy Suchman.
Melby has been part of the Ozark City Schools family for many years and most recently served as assistant principal at Mixon Intermediate School for the past two years.
In a statement following the announcement, Melby expressed gratitude for the opportunity.
“[I’m] thanking God for this opportunity to be the Principal for an amazing staff at Mixon Intermediate School,” Melby said.
District leaders noted that Melby’s experience at the school and her familiarity with students, faculty, and families will help ensure continuity and continued success at Mixon.
In addition to the school-level leadership changes, Ozark City Schools announced the return of Daniel Barrentine to serve as assistant superintendent.
District officials described Barrentine’s appointment as the return of “a familiar face” to the district’s leadership team.
Barrentine, who has 19 years of educational experience as a teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal, and principal, expressed enthusiasm about returning to serve the Ozark community.
“I am incredibly excited to be back serving the Ozark City Schools community and look forward to working together to support our students, teachers, school leaders, and families!” Barrentine said.
Barrentine most recently served as principal at G.W. Long and was named the 2023 Alabama High School Teacher of the Year. Barrentine is a native of Huntsville and holds degrees from Troy University and the University of Alabama.
The appointments come as Ozark City Schools has had several changes in personnel over the last few months, with the appointment of CHS alumnus and NFL superstar Steve McLendon as head football coach and the promotion of former CHS principal Marsielena Williams to replace outgoing superintendent Reeivice Girtman.
OCS emphasizes that the personnel changes are expected to position the school system for success as the upcoming academic year approaches. District leaders emphasized the importance of experienced leadership and strong connections to the school community in building a strong team to lead the schools and the system forward into the future.
During a recent OCS board meeting, officials said each of the newly appointed leaders brings valuable experience, established relationships, and a commitment to supporting student achievement throughout the district.
