OZARK — The gathered Thursday, March 12, for its regular monthly meeting, which was held at Lisenby Elementary School and featured student performances, academic recognitions, athletics updates, and discussions on district projects.
The meeting opened with a musical performance by the Lisenby Singers, directed by music teacher Meagan Johnson. Students performed selections including “Happily Ever After” from Disney and “I 2,” providing a musical welcome for board members and attendees.
Following the performance, Lisenby Principal Kristen Cruit delivered a presentation highlighting the school’s culture and several initiatives aimed at supporting student success. Among the programs discussed were Peer Helpers, All Pro Dads, and the Principal 200 Club, which encourage leadership, family engagement, and academic motivation among students.
Board members also received updates on district business matters, including the bidding process for the D.A. Smith science lab project and ongoing work related to the district’s termite bond.
Athletics Director Chris Logan concluded the meeting with an update on the district’s spring sports programs, noting strong participation and several early-season accomplishments.
The district recently hosted its first track and field events at its new facilities, drawing more than 500 spectators and volunteers. Logan reported that Ozark athletes have already set new school records in multiple events, including hurdles, shot put, discus, and javelin.
Ozark’s boys soccer team remains undefeated this season and is currently ranked seventh in the state, while the girls soccer team holds an eighth-place ranking and is working toward what would be its 18th consecutive playoff appearance.
In baseball, a recent highlight included a seven-inning no-hitter, while the softball program is seeing renewed momentum after a key area victory. Participation in the golf program has also increased significantly, with the number of student-athletes doubling this season and players now competing for sectional contention.
Logan also informed the board that the search for the district’s next head football coach is nearing completion, with a recommendation expected soon.
In addition to the athletic updates, the board recognized several students for academic and creative achievements.
Dakota Cherry, Jackson Welch, and Creedence Hobbs were honored for earning a Level 4 score on the practice ACAP assessment. Aubrii Mills and Creedence Hobbs were also recognized as winners in the Read Across America Bookmark Competition.
District leaders congratulated the students for their accomplishments and praised their dedication in the classroom.
The meeting concluded with a reminder that Ozark City Schools will observe spring break from March 23 through March 27.
