Books and audiobooks are wonderful. Did you know that you can instantly access tens of thousands of titles of books, ebooks, and audiobooks through the Libby app by using your Ozark Dale County Library (ODCL) card? It’s quick and simple. Simply speak to the library staff so they can help you get set up. But that’s not all that’s being offered at the library.
The public library has something for everyone planned for the month of March, featuring a wide variety of programs for children, teens, and adults. Activities are listed below by audience and in chronological order.
Children and Teen Programs
⚔️ SCA Fighter Practice will be held Sunday, March 1 and 15, from 2 to 5 p.m. on the library’s grassy grounds. Participants can observe or take part in medieval combat demonstrations.
📚 Weekly Story Time takes place Wednesdays, March 4, 11, 18, and 25, with sessions from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Children’s Library. Each program includes a story, craft, and snack.
🎮 Game On! @ the Library begins Friday, March 6, and continues March 13, 20, and 27, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Bay Area Meeting Room. Activities include Minecraft, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic, board games, and a Dungeons & Dragons group.
🎨 The Local and Future Artist Event will be held Saturday, March 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Bay Area Meeting Room. Artists Helen Taylor Andrews, Jarrod Alberich, and Tim Bates will display their work, along with pieces from the Ann Rudd Art Center.
🏫 Homeschool Hangout is set for Thursday, March 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Bay Area Meeting Room. Homeschool and virtual students, along with parents, are invited to a social gathering with activities and resources. Lunch will be provided.
🧸 Toddler Tales will also be held Thursday, March 12, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Bay Area Meeting Room, offering an evening storytime option.
🌋 The Curiosity Crew meets Saturday, March 14, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Bay Area Meeting Room. This month’s program will explore volcanoes with discussion and a hands-on experiment.
🎬 Prose & Cons Teen Media Club is scheduled for Saturday, March 21, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Teen Library. Teens ages 14 to 18 can join Outreach Specialist Mac Bates for a discussion on how the arts, cinema, and writing have evolved.
🧱 Lego Club will be held on Tuesday, March 24, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Children’s Library. The program includes building challenges, games, and free play, with Duplo blocks available for younger children.
🚀 Fandoms of the Milky Way is scheduled for Thursday, March 26, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Bay Area Meeting Room. Fans of science fiction, comics, and fantasy can gather for themed discussions and refreshments.
🏰 Medieval Meetup will close out the month Saturday, March 28, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Bay Area Meeting Room. The event features medieval-themed games and a mini feast. Attendees are encouraged to dress in period attire, with loaner garments available.
Adult Programs and Meetings
✍️ The Society of Scribblers will meet on Thursday, March 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Bay Area Meeting Room. Writers are invited to share their work and discuss literature.
📖 The Dale County Book Club gathers Saturday, March 7, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Bay Area Meeting Room. This month’s selection focuses on A Game of Thrones.
💻 Basic Computer Classes will be offered Saturdays, March 7, 14, 21, and 28, from 9 to 10 a.m., covering essential computer skills.
📝 A free Social Security & Medicare 101 seminar is set for Tuesday, March 10, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Bay Area Meeting Room. Topics include Social Security benefits, Medicare enrollment, and retirement planning.
🤝 Friends of the Ozark Dale County Library will meet Saturday, March 14, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Bay Area Meeting Room. The meeting is open to the public.
🏛️ The Board of Trustees will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 18, from 11 a.m. to noon in the Bay Area Meeting Room.
💰 Magnolia Wealth Management will host a financial seminar on Saturday, March 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., focusing on savings protection and retirement income strategies.
♟️ The Knights of the Wiregrass Chess Club meets on Thursday, March 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Bay Area Meeting Room. Players of all skill levels are welcome.
🧶 Twisted Stitches, a popular crafting club for knitters and crocheters, will meet Saturday, March 14 and 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Teen Library.
All events will be held at the Ozark Dale County Library, 296 North Union Avenue, unless otherwise noted. The library is open Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
