OZARK –The Ozark Dale County Library has released its schedule of events for October, and there’s a lot happening!
The library offers a wide variety of programs for all ages, from family-friendly programs and educational & special topic workshops to teen clubs and weekly gatherings for people of all ages.
The month begins with festivities tied to the Claybank Jamboree. On Saturday, Oct. 4, the library will host its annual BBQ Plate Sale starting at 8 a.m. on the front sidewalk, with plates available for $8 until sold out. That same day, patrons can enter the Claybank Book Giveaway for a chance to win works by Val McGee, including Claybank Memories and The Origins of Fort Rucker.
On Tuesday, Oct. 7, the library welcomes Audrey Nordmo Horton, who will share her powerful story as a World War II survivor and prisoner of war in her presentation “Barefoot POW.”
Later in the month, programs range from a Craft Swap on Oct. 11, to the Claybank Master Gardeners Lunch & Learn on Oct. 22, where Dr. Meredith Shrader of Auburn University will discuss the role of spiders in the garden.
Special themed events include the Children’s Halloween Party on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 1-3 p.m., and a Medieval Meetup later that afternoon featuring games, a feast, and costumes. Teens can take part in the Prose & Cons Teen Media Club and Drawn Together Teen Art Hour on Oct. 18, while younger audiences are invited to the Lego Club on Oct. 28.
Regular weekly offerings continue throughout the month, including Story Time every Wednesday, Game On! every Friday, Basic Computer Classes on Saturdays, and gatherings such as Twisted Stitches, The Curiosity Crew, and the Knights of the Wiregrass Chess Club. There’s something for everyone at the ODC Library.
Community engagement remains central, with meetings for the Friends of the Library on Oct. 11 and the Board of Trustees on Oct. 15. Both meetings are always open to the public, so if you are interested in becoming more involved, be sure to attend. Additionally, a Social Security & Medicare 101 seminar will be held Oct. 14 to help residents prepare for retirement planning.
The library is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
