Ozark Fire & Rescue has officially begun its 2026 firefighter recruit school, welcoming a new group of recruits who are embarking on several weeks of intensive training and preparation for a career in the fire service.
The recruits will spend the coming weeks learning the skills and knowledge necessary to serve as firefighters, with a training schedule that will include hands-on instruction, classroom study, physical conditioning, teamwork, and practical drills.

According to an announcement from Ozark Fire & Rescue, Recruit School is designed to challenge participants both physically and mentally as they learn how to respond to the demanding situations firefighters encounter in the field.
Each lesson, drill, and training day will bring the recruits closer to completing the requirements needed to earn their place in the fire service.
Ozark Fire & Rescue said the department is looking forward to watching the recruits develop throughout the program as they gain experience, build confidence, and learn to work together as a team.
The department also shared a lighter moment from the first day of recruit school, noting that the newest recruits were already keeping a very close eye on their recruit flag.
According to Ozark Fire & Rescue, those who followed the department’s previous recruit school may remember that the flag has a habit of going on its own “adventures” whenever recruits aren’t paying attention.
As the 2026 recruit school continues, residents may see the recruits training throughout the community.
Ozark Fire & Rescue is encouraging residents who encounter the recruits during training to offer a wave, a word of encouragement, or simply wish them well as they begin their journey toward becoming firefighters.
The department is also inviting the community to leave messages of encouragement for the recruits as they work their way through Recruit School 2026.
