DALE COUNTY—An Ozark man died Friday afternoon following a single-vehicle crash on County Road 14 near Newton, according to Dale County Coroner John Cawley. The victim died after crashing into a tree, authorities say.
Cawley identified the victim as 45-year-old James Chiles Harrison of Ozark.
According to the coroner, Harrison was traveling west on County Road 14 in a 2006 Mazda 3 shortly after noon on Friday, March 6, when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Harrison was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Emergency responders transported Harrison from the scene to Flowers Hospital in Dothan by Echo EMS, where he was later pronounced dead by Cawley.
Multiple agencies responded to the crash, including the Newton Police Department, the Dale County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Mason Bynum, Echo EMS, the Newton Fire Department, and the Dale County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities said the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by local officials.
