OZARK—Residents from across the Wiregrass are invited to gather in downtown Ozark on June 19 for a free Juneteenth Community Celebration honoring unity, freedom, and heritage.
The event will take place from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Ozark Amphitheatre and will feature free food, live music, family-friendly activities, vendors, and door prizes.
Organizers of the celebration have planned an afternoon of entertainment and community fellowship to commemorate Juneteenth, the federal holiday marking the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.
Music for the celebration will be provided by DJ TK, while attendees can enjoy a variety of free food offerings from local vendors.
Several attractions and community vendors will also be on hand throughout the event to offer a variety of fun activities to keep visitors entertained. The event is family-friendly, and there will be a dedicated kids’ corner with attractions, such as inflatable bouncy houses, and other activities designed for them.
Organizers are encouraging attendees to bring lawn chairs and enjoy an afternoon of food, music, and family fun. Free door prizes will also be given away during the celebration.
The event is open to the public at no cost.
Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. The holiday has become a nationwide celebration of freedom, culture, and community.
