OZARK— Military veterans who have been awarded the Purple Heart will be recognized during a special appreciation luncheon in Ozark on Wednesday, Aug. 6, as local veteran organizations come together to honor their service and sacrifice.
The Purple Heart Recognition Luncheon, hosted by Wiregrass Honor Flight in partnership with AMVETS, the Ozark American Legion, and Vets 4 Vets, will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Holman House, located at 285 Broad Street in downtown Ozark. All area veterans who have been awarded the Purple Heart are invited to attend. Col. Keith Hill will be the keynote speaker at the luncheon.
According to Wiregrass Honor Flight, the event is designed to recognize the courage, sacrifice, and dedicated service of military members who have received the Purple Heart, one of the nation’s oldest and most respected military decorations. The award is presented to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who are wounded or killed as a result of enemy action while serving their country.
“Our goal is to honor the heroes whose sacrifice will never be forgotten,” the organization said in announcing the event.
Wiregrass Honor Flight Founder and President Travis Parker recently discussed the upcoming luncheon with The Chronicle, emphasizing the event’s importance. He noted that it honors and recognizes a special class of heroes: Purple Heart recipients within the Wiregrass community.
Community members who know a Purple Heart recipient who would enjoy attending are encouraged to contact Wiregrass Honor Flight for additional information. The organization is inviting Purple Heart recipients to attend as honored guests and welcomes further questions through its social media pages.
The luncheon reflects the continued commitment of local veterans organizations to recognize those who have made extraordinary sacrifices in service to the United States and to ensure their contributions are remembered by the community.
