MONTGOMERY—On Thursday, Governor Kay Ivey announced that more than $7.6 million in state funding will be distributed for 26 transportation projects across the state through the Rebuild Alabama Act Annual Grant Program (Rebuild AL).
The funding, administered through the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), supports road resurfacing, drainage improvements, rehabilitation projects, and other transportation infrastructure work in communities throughout the state. The program is funded in part through the state fuel tax increase of 10 cents per gallon, which the Alabama Legislature approved in 2019 under the Rebuild Alabama Act.
According to Governor Ivey, the projects continue the state’s long-term effort to modernize Alabama’s roads and bridges through the Rebuild Alabama Act, which was passed in 2019.
“If you are driving from one place to the next in our state, it is hard not to spot a blue Rebuild Alabama sign along the way. That is because we have road and bridge projects happening in all 67 counties,” Governor Ivey said. “These grants are giving our local communities the support they need to take on critical projects. We are going to keep delivering results you can see mile after mile across our state.”
The 2026 Annual Grant Program will award a total of $15 million this year, exceeding the minimum required under the Rebuild Alabama Act by $5 million. Additional grants are expected to be announced later this year.
Local governments are also contributing more than $1.9 million in matching funds for the awarded projects. All approved projects must begin moving forward within one year of receiving funding.
Since the creation of the program, ALDOT has awarded more than $78 million in transportation funding for local projects statewide.
Southeast Alabama Projects
The following projects were awarded funding in southeast Alabama counties:
Dale County
• No projects were included in this round of funding.
Coffee County
• No projects were included in this round of funding.
Geneva County
• Hartford, resurfacing 4th Avenue and Commerce Street, along with shoulder stabilization on CR-45 and Shiloh Road, received $350,000 in state funding with $102,414 in local matching funds, for a total project cost of $452,414.
Pike County
• No projects were included in this round of funding.
Houston County
• Columbia, resurfacing South Main Street from SR-52/East Church Street to the end of the roadway, received $207,300 in state funding with $20,000 in local funds, for a total project cost of $227,300.
Barbour County
• No projects were included in this round of funding.
Covington County
• Andalusia, resurfacing and drainage improvements on Henderson Street, 1st Avenue, 3rd Street, 4th Avenue, and 2nd Street, received $350,000 in state funding with $292,750 in local funds, for a total project cost of $642,750.
Crenshaw County
• Luverne, resurfacing West 6th Street from U.S. Highway 331 to the entrance of Luverne High School, received $321,297.50 in state funding with $124,797.50 in local funds, for a total project cost of $446,095.
Henry County
• No projects were included in this round of funding.
