Dale County— A Red Flag Warning has been issued for southeast Alabama, including Dale County and surrounding counties, on Saturday, March 28, as weather conditions create a heightened risk for rapidly spreading wildfires.
The warning, issued by the National Weather Service, remains in effect from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday. Officials say a combination of low humidity, dry conditions, and gusty winds has created critical fire weather across the region.
Under a Red Flag Warning, even small sparks can quickly ignite fires that spread rapidly and become difficult to control. Forecasters note that dry vegetation, paired with winds gusting up to around 20 miles per hour, significantly increases the danger.
Meteorologists are urging residents to avoid outdoor burning during the warning period. Activities such as burning debris, grilling in open areas, or discarding cigarettes improperly could lead to unintended fires. Similar conditions across central and south Alabama have prompted widespread advisories stressing that any open flame could quickly get out of control.
Saturday’s weather is expected to remain mostly sunny with a high near 70 degrees, but the dry air and steady winds will continue to pose a threat throughout the day.
Looking ahead, conditions are expected to gradually improve, with slightly higher humidity and warmer temperatures returning early next week. However, rain chances remain limited in the short term, meaning fire danger could persist if dry conditions continue.
Officials encourage residents to stay alert, follow local burn restrictions, and report any signs of fire immediately to emergency services.
