OZARK — An outpouring of community support is underway for correctional officers at the Dale County Jail, as residents and local officials come together to recognize the work and sacrifices of those who serve behind the scenes in the county’s justice system.
National Correctional Officers Week is May 3-9 this year, and the personnel at the Dale County Jail have already been showered with goodies and other gestures of appreciation.
In recent days, members of the community have dropped off food, desserts, and other items as a gesture of appreciation for the correctional staff, whose duties often go unnoticed but remain essential to public safety.
Continuing that effort, Dale County Coroner John Cawley is set to host a cookout today in honor of the correctional officers. The event is intended to provide a morale boost and a visible show of gratitude for the staff’s dedication and long hours.
Supporters say the initiative is about more than just meals, it is about acknowledging the demanding nature of the job and the professionalism required to maintain order and safety within the jail.
Correctional officers play a critical role in the local criminal justice system, overseeing inmates, ensuring facility security, and responding to emergencies, all while working in a challenging and often high stress environment.
