Art enthusiasts have several opportunities to experience local history, creativity, and hands-on learning this summer at the Dowling Museum and Ann Rudd Art Center in downtown Ozark.
The museum’s featured exhibition, “Many Voices, One Nation: Voices of Dale County in the Wiregrass,” is on display through Aug. 8.
The Smithsonian-affiliated exhibit highlights the stories and heritage of Dale County while celebrating the diverse voices that have shaped the Wiregrass region. The exhibition is accompanied by paintings and photographs from the book Spirit of Dale County: Celebrating Two Hundred Years by Helen Andrews and Carol Luckfield, which are on display in the main gallery.
Those interested in creating their own artwork can register for a Pottery Class in Ozark on Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to noon. Instructor Brian Peisch will teach participants hand-building and glazing techniques while they create their own ceramic charcuterie board.
The class costs $50 per person, includes all materials, and is limited to 15 participants. Reservations may be made by emailing [email protected], with cash or check accepted at the door.
Looking ahead, artists from across the region are invited to enter the 26th Annual Regional Art Exhibition, scheduled for Aug. 22 through Sept. 25. The exhibition will award $1,600 in cash prizes and is made possible through a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
Artwork will be accepted Aug. 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. An opening reception is scheduled for Aug. 23 from 3 to 5 p.m. The exhibition will remain on display through Sept. 25, with artwork pickup scheduled for Sept. 25 and 26 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Operated by the Dale County Council of the Arts and Humanities, the Dowling Museum and Ann Rudd Art Center has become one of Dale County’s premier cultural destinations, offering rotating art exhibitions, educational workshops, historical displays, and community events throughout the year. The historic downtown venue regularly showcases the work of local and regional artists while preserving the history and heritage of Dale County.
