OZARK—Calling all art lovers! Another wonderful art exhibition is coming to Dale County as the Dale County Council of the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) prepares to close its successful Collegiate Art Exhibition. With this being the last week to view the Collegiate Art Exhibit, the organization is already looking ahead to its next major showcase, an incredible collaborative exhibition developed with the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street and the National Museum of American History.
This week marks the final opportunity for residents to view the Collegiate Art Exhibition at the Dowling Museum and Ann Rudd Art Center before it closes this weekend. The exhibit features artwork created by talented college students from across the region and has served as one of the council’s featured summer attractions.
Following the conclusion of the collegiate exhibit, DCCAH will open “Many Voices, One Nation: Voices of Dale County in the Wiregrass on June 13. The exhibition, developed” in collaboration with the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street and the National Museum of American History, explores the stories, experiences, and perspectives that have helped shape communities across the nation while highlighting local connections within Dale County and the Wiregrass.”
The exhibit will remain on display through Aug. 8 at the Dowling Museum and Ann Rudd Art Center in downtown Ozark.
DCCAH officials said the exhibition represents the organization’s second partnership with the Smithsonian and brings a nationally recognized museum experience to the local community.
An opening reception is scheduled for Sunday, June 28, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Everyone interested in art is invited to attend.
As part of the reception, local authors Helen Andrews and Carol Luckfield will host a book signing for their newly released book, Spirit of Dale County: Celebrating Two Hundred Years. Copies of the book will be available for purchase during the event.
In conjunction with the book signing, a selection of Andrews’ paintings and Luckfield’s photography featured in the publication will be displayed in the museum’s main gallery throughout the run of the Many Voices, One Nation exhibition.
The exhibition was developed through a collaboration between DCCAH, the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street program, and the National Museum of American History. The program is made possible through support from the Ford Foundation.
Additional program support is provided by the Alabama Humanities Alliance and the Wiregrass RC&D Council.
